American statesman and philosopher Samuel Adams was born into a family of Puritan ministers.
He studied theology at Harvard College but abandoned his studies when his father's business failed. Adams dabbled in commerce unsuccessfully before becoming a tax collector.
Political Resistance
By the early 1760s, Adams had become an influential member of the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
